Medieval Brick – Pirate Ship MOC

I was recently lucky enough to be sent this Medieval Brick Pirate Ship moc set to build and review from Medieval Brick. It is made of 1328 Mini Particle Building Blocks made of eco-friendly ABS material. The box says its suitable for 6+ so should be fun for all the family.

First impressions of this set were good, the box was nice and sturdy, with attractive artwork. Inside the box there was a printed paper manual, and multiple sealed bags of bricks numbered from 1 and 4. There were also 3 nicely printed black material sails with skulls and crossed cutlasses on for the ship.

Figures

The set comes with 4 little pirate figures that you get to build, very nicely done. You even have to put the arms on the torsos, and connect the legs to the hips. I particularly like the little chap with the bandana as he has a cheeky smile. The Captain looks very dapper in his Black outfit with red waistcoat underneath.

Bags 1

You also get a familiar looking mini brick separator, which did come in handy several times while I was building the set, and it worked perfectly.

The ship also comes with 4 cannons and a little raft build, all of these were in part 1 of the set. It all connected together nicely and seemed quite solid. The 4 cannons was a nice touch too as you get 2 for each side of the ship.

By the end of part 1 I had 4 Pirates, a raft and the hull of the ship containing 4 cannons. All looking very nice in shiny black plastic.

Lots more bricks in part 2 where you get to build the deck, and add so nice features,

There is a treasure chest, barrels on deck, bottles of rum and the table and chair in the Captains quarters. Theres even a nice little printed chart piece on the captains table. It was enjoyable to build, although the deck could possibly have used a little more support in the middle, as it did flex quite a bit when trying to connect some of the plates.

Bags 3

Part 3 built up the rest of the ship, and added some really nice features. I particularly liked the skeleton mast head. The Captains quarters looked really nice once done, and the sides open outwards to make it accessible for play. It has a nice classic look to it all and feels really piratey. Most of the set pushes together really well and is surprisingly solid and robust.

Bags 4

On to the final part of the build 5 bags of bricks numbered 4, 2 special rigging looking bricks and 3 nicely printed sails.

On this part I got to build the tall masts, which are a little flimsy, but I think that is more to do with how tiny the pieces are, it all stays together well once built. Theres even a little crows nest on top. The sails all pop onto the masts nicely and look good once they’ve been hoisted. Then for final touches there is the rigging to add towards the rear of the vessel up the main mast.

Conclusion

All in all a very nice build, the instructions were clear and easy to follow. The quality of the bricks was good too, and for the most part they push together well, although are a little fiddly for bigger hands.

A lot of thought has been put into the overall appearance of the ship, it looks very menacing in the black and brown, with gold trimming. It makes for a very nice looking product.

It would be a lot of fun for children to play with, or make a nice model for adults to display, which doesn’t take up too much real estate if space is limited.
